88th Boys Amateur at Prestwick GC. 12th-17th August 2014

The 88th Boys Amateur Championship is to be played at both Prestwick and Dundonald Links, on August 12-17, 2014.

Prestwick hosted the first 12 Open Championships between 1860 and 1872 and legendary figures like Willie Park Snr, Tom Morris Snr and Jnr and David Strath all made their names on this venerable Ayrshire links.

Largely for logistical reasons, Prestwick has not held an Open Championship since America’s Jim Barnes defeated English duo, Archie Compston and Ted Ray, back in 1925 but it is still a regular on most other Championship rotas and last year hosted the Ladies British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship. It has also staged ten Amateur Championships, the Ladies’ Amateur Championship, the Seniors Amateur Championship and various Scottish championships as well as the Boys Amateur Championship on two previous occasions.

The first stage of the Championship involves 252 players each of whom plays two rounds of 18 holes, one to be played on each of the two courses.

The 64 lowest scores over the 36 holes and ties for 64th place will compete in the match play stage of the Championship. Each match will consist of one round of 18 holes except the Final which will be over 36 holes.
